Be Bold! Go Tankless!

Be Bold! Go Tankless!

Each new single family home in Annafeld comes equipped with a Navien NPE-180S.  While not very big, measuring only 28.8″ tall and 17.3″ wide, this sleek machine is a powerful workhorse.

How Does A Tankless Hot Water Heater Work?

When a hot water tap is opened, water travels through the unit and is heated very quickly to about 120°by a gas burner and sent to the requested destination, providing a continuous supply of hot water. The beauty of this and other tankless water heaters is that it works only when you need it—when you take a shower, start the dishwasher or washing machine, or wash your hands in the sink.  When none of these are being used, your Navien 180s rests. Whether that is for 5 minutes or three weeks, it simply will not use energy to heat water while off-duty. It patiently waits until it is called upon again. The result? Minimal energy waste.

Compare this to a conventional storage hot water heater, or tank heater, which must use energy to ensure a minimal and acceptable heat is maintained at all times. According to information provided at energy.gov, an office of the U.S. Department of Energy:

“Since water is constantly heated in the tank, energy can be wasted even when a hot water tap isn’t running. This is called standby heat loss…”

Standby heat loss costs money.  A tankless water heater, on the other hand, does not store hot water for use at a later time, so there is no gas wasted on heating stored water.  This makes a tankless option more efficient which saves you money.

Cost Comparison
Consider the annual costs of a Navien Tankless water heater to a traditional “tank” water heater.

Annual Operating Cost:  Tankless vs. Storage Water Heater

Clearly, the tankless wins the prize for annual savings.  And according to the The Department of Energy:
"Most tankless water heaters have a life expectancy of more than 20 years."

Multiply that annual savings over the life of the heater, and you’ll realize a few thousand dollars of energy costs saved.  See why our homeowners get so excited about our tankless water heater feature that comes included on every single family home?!?
